Uttarakhand Floods: thousands stranded, 10,000 around evacuated

Uttarakhand, June 20: Around 10,000 people were rescued from several landslide-hit areas in Uttarakhand on Thursday (June 20) after flash floods sparked by early monsoon rains wreaked havoc leaving tens of thousands of tourists stranded. Though at least150 people are reported dead so far from Uttarakhand, officials say they expect the death toll to eventually hit thousands. Many parts of the state where people are stranded remain inaccessible. Earlier the District Magistrate, Uttarkashi, R Rajesh Kumar said that the rescue operations are in full swing.
